Contract signing

The Special Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases “Dr. Slavoljub Bakalović” Vršac signed today the Subsidy Agreement for the implementation of the project “Early diagnosis – Living well with dementia”, which it will implement together with a partner from Resica (Romania) during the next 24 months.

In addition to representatives of the institution, the event was attended by a delegation of the Joint Secretariat of the Programme from Timisoara, consisting of executive director Anka Lolescu, expert consultants Marius Popescu and Dani Bardoš, representatives of the partner institution from Resita Silviu Tinca and Dr. Violeta Morosoi and the representative of the local government of the City of Vrsac, Trajan Kacina, member of the City Council.

The contract was signed for SHPD Vrsac by the acting director Dr. Jelena Djokic.

Through the call for large infrastructure projects of the INTERREG-IPA cross-border cooperation programme Romania-Serbia, SHPD Vršac, together with the County Hospital for Emergency Medicine Resita, applied for funds for the implementation of the project “Early diagnosis – Living well with dementia”, which is significant for the hospital infrastructure investments, i.e. the extension and expansion of the existing CT cabinet and the acquisition and installation of a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device, along with other activities,” said Dr. Đokić.

Since it is a large infrastructural type of project, the total value is 5.055.900,40 EUR, the budget of SHPD Vrsac is 2.957.427,63 EUR, and the participation of the European Union is 85% of the total value, while 15% is provided by the beneficiaries.

This type of investment will complete the diagnostic capabilities of the institution, with a significant increase in the quality of services provided to hospital patients and the population of the entire region.

In addition to the acquisition and installation of magnetic resonance devices, the project also plans a campaign to spread awareness about dementia through activities such as tours and preventive examinations in populated areas in the region, the creation and distribution of educational materials, and further training of the medical staff from both institutions, along with promotional activities to increase the visibility of the project and inform the population,” said Dr. Djokic.

She reminded the attendees that SHPD Vršac has, since 2017, successfully implemented two projects through the INTERREG-IPA cross-border cooperation program Romania-Serbia.

These are the “Longer Life” project, through which a computerized tomography device (CT scanner) was purchased and put into operation in 2018, and the “Better Life” project, within the framework of which a 30-bed dementia Center was built in the premises of the SHPD Vrsac”.
